What is it?
2-n-Octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one is a member of the chemically related isothiazolinone group of preservatives. 2-n-Octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one is an antimicrobial agent that is mainly used in industrial settings.
How can I avoid it?
Skin contact with 2-n-Octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one is required for it to cause a rash. Discontinuation of exposure to products containing 2-n-Octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one should result in improvement and/or resolution of your dermatitis. By law, all products made in the US for topical use have the ingredients listed either on the product package or the box that contains it, so check the labeling of you skin care products for this ingredient.
